Is it possible for a t.v. set to only work on one channel?

you need to program tv for AIR..meaning antenna..I'm uming channel 3 or 4 is your only channel..get into MENU,look for program channel,or similar,program for AIR, or ANTENNA...dont scrap it til you try that
